Forgiving too much

I had a pre-planned family vacation before I met my boyfriend. We were together 3 months when I left for that vacation. While I was gone he reconnected with an ex girlfriend and sent her a text telling her he still loved her and was going to get her back. He also sent one of their mutual friends a fb message that he met with her and all his old feelings for her came back and that he would drop me in a minute for her.

When I confronted him about this he said he didn't know why he did what he did or said what he said because he loved me. I have forgiven him but I can not get those words I read out of my head. I don't know what to do about it.
